Stand with Me

“Stay next to me Sunshine” is a self directed editorial illustration. I was incredibly moved after reading in a newspaper article about the plight of refugee mothers in Ukraine, thinking about how this would feel as a mother and wife myself, having to uproot and leave loved ones to ensure the safety of your children, is an unbelievably tough decision to make. The illustration represents the immense pressure refugee mothers are experiencing. Not only are these women leaving their husbands and sons behind, they are having to take their children to a strange land and shoulder the worries of their future alone. This is a universal problem and not isolated to Ukraine, real women all over the world are suffering alone whilst their husbands are left to fight and defend their countries.
